Introduction
Bibimbap is a classic Korean mixed rice dish.
It consists of rice topped with various vegetables, greens, meat, and an egg, mixed together with gochujang (Korean red chili paste).
You can use any vegetables or greens you like, there’s no strict rule.
Sesame oil adds flavor, but it’s optional depending on your preference.
When served in a hot stone bowl, it’s called “Dolsot Bibimbap”. In this version, both the rice and vegetables are hot, unlike regular bibimbap, where the vegetables are served cold.
Ingredients (Serves 1)
1 bowl of cooked rice
Various vegetables/greens (spinach, bean sprouts, carrots, cucumber, zucchini, or anything you like)
1 egg
1 tbsp gochujang (Korean red chili paste)
1 tsp sesame oil (optional)
A sprinkle of sesame seeds
Instructions
Prepare the vegetables
Lightly blanch or stir-fry your vegetables.
For regular bibimbap: serve vegetables cold
For dolsot bibimbap: serve vegetables hot
Assemble the bowl
Place rice in a bowl.
Arrange the prepared vegetables and greens on top.
Add the egg
Use a fried or soft-boiled egg.
Season and mix
Add gochujang and sesame oil (if using).
Mix everything thoroughly before eating.
Finish with sesame seeds
Sprinkle sesame seeds on top for extra flavor.
💡 Tips
Dolsot bibimbap allows the rice at the bottom to crisp up, adding a delicious crunchy texture.
Feel free to adjust the types and amounts of vegetables to create your own personalized bibimbap.
